“If you understand something in only one way, then you don't really
understand it at all. The secret of what anything means to us depends on
how we've connected it to all other things we know. Well-connected
representations let you turn ideas around in your mind, to envision things
from many perspectives until you find one that works for you. And that's
what we mean by thinking!”
~Marvin Minsky
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between studying harder and studying smarter? Myself, I've wondered this all my young life. What's the difference between me and the "gifted"?
Were smart people really any better than me?
In truth, I never really saw a difference--that is, until I found the ultimate study guide in Scott H. Young's: "Learn More, Study Less"--which not only explained the difference between me and them, but even showed me what I could do to emulate their habits!
In the Introduction to his book, Scott writes:
"I began to notice something different about myself and people even smarter than me. It wasn’t just that smart people learned better or faster.
"They learned differently.
"Smarts requires a different strategy. Smart people had picked up different tactics, sometimes intentionally but usually completely without awareness of them. It was these different strategies that made the difference in understanding."
Now this drew me in. I needed to know more. He continues:
"That different strategy I called holistic learning. I call it holistic learning because it challenges you to view learning as a comprehensive whole, instead of a list of memorized facts. Smart people tend to make fewer distinctions between branches of knowledge and can easily relate one set of understandings to another.
"By learning holistically, smart people are able to quickly integrate new information. More importantly, this information sticks. They actually “get” the concepts and see how the concepts relate to far more than just the problems given."
This study guide was already beginning to pay for itself! It's no wonder I tended to have trouble keeping up with the smart kids--I wasn't learning the same way that they were! And the solution I was looking for was not longer and more intense study nights, but a brand new strategy! The reason I had spent more time studying in the past was because I was trying to learn the wrong way.
But now that I knew that I needed a new strategy, I became hungry for more. I knew that my grades could use the help. I knew my girlfriend would love the extra time. So I kept reading, and reading...
...Fast forward a little bit...
...Since beginning the book several months ago, the book has dramatically changed the way I approach learning, understanding, and education for good. Where I struggled before, I can now breeze through tests and assignments. When I used to be at home studying, I am now out spending time with my beautiful girlfriend and my closest friends. But most importantly, where I had C's and D's before, I now have A's!
Not to mention, I spend much more time building my website and pleasure reading (which I love).
I feel smarter, wiser, and more free than I ever have in my life!
Who would have predicted that an e-book could have such a large impact on my budding college life? Not me.
To make a long story short, I can't tell you how grateful I am to Scott Young for this study guide course as it has changed many things for me. Ever since I paid the $67 for the full, Learning Ninja Edition (the most value of the 3 options), the results of my University schooling have been much better! Grades are up, and I have a lot more time to hang with friends. And on top of that, the things that I have learned from the study guide will carry with me for the rest of my life!
If you are anything like me, you will not only love the "Learn More, Study Less" video and e-book course, but you will recommend it to your friends, maybe even similar to the way that I am recommending it to you right now. I promise you, "Learn More, Study Less" is the best investment you could make in your college career, because the material within it pays for itself!
Just another student,
Diego
